Rare Male Slash Letter
Dear RMSE Creator,
So hi, dearest creator. I’m so glad you’re writing/drawing one of my tiny M/M pairings for me! Sit back and relax, and please don't be frightened by this long-ish letter. I'm sure I'll love whatever you create for me!
If you want to know more about me , I’m
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
This letter has a list of DNWs and general likes, and also fandom-specific prompts. However, please don't feel obliged to stick to my prompts—as long as you don't include my DNWs, I'm sure I'll love whatever you like.
The sections for some relationships are longer than others, but this is not because I want the longer relationships more than the shorter ones, it's just that for some relationships, I like very specific things, while, for others, I'd love basically anything.

DNWs:
- Gore/guro/vore.
- Necrophilia.
- Torture of animals. (Humans/humanoids/other sapients being tortured is more than fine!)
- Graphic descriptions of nausea/vomiting.
- Reader inserts.
- Mundane AUs.
- Unrequested depowered/non-powered AUs.
- A/B/O
- Crossovers/fusions between fandoms I haven't asked for. (Crossover within any fandom in my letter or previous exchange letters, along with mythology and folklore, are more than fine!)
- AUs with modern settings are no-no’s unless there’s a reasonable canon explanation (eg-: Tolkien, people cursed to be reborn again and again into mortal forms). Even then, please no high school or coffee shop AUs.
- Please no age regression, de-ageing, or AUs in which one character is suddenly older than a previously older-than-them character (ageswap?).
- Girl!penis. (Trans characters are fine, just please no inexplicable g!p.)
- For smut, I'd prefer not to see bloodplay, scat, watersports, age play (including daddy/mommy kink), and any sort of permanent marking/scarring/body modification (scarring and permanent markings outside smut is perfectly fine) unless I've prompted these things for the specific pairing.
- H/C fics centering on characters with depression and/or anxiety, and/or characters who self-harm or have eating disorders are not my favourite thing. (All of these things are more than fine in non-H/C fic, but not as things which can be hugged/cuddled better, please.)
- Genderswap which makes canon pairings or pairings I've requested F/M.
- Unrequested relationships as the main focus of a fic (side pairings/non-endgame relationships are fine).
- Unrequested parent/child incest.
- Smut for underage relationships unless otherwise requested.
- Extreme underage (pre-pubertal children) unless otherwise requested.
- Anachronistic discussions of sexuality and/or characters lecturing other characters on SJ issues.
General Likes:
Tropes, Genres, and (for fic) Story Elements
- Angst. Drama. Politics. Tragedy.
- Philosophical ponderings!
- I love canon divergence AUs, and For Want Of A Nail and other what-if scenarios. I'd love both longer fic (for fic) and art/ficlets as snapshots of what could have been, all the things that could've happened, but didn't.
- Soulmates! Not necessarily soulmate AUs (although that'd be more than fine), but soulmates as in 'I knew you the moment I saw you', or 'I felt you in my soul' or any other version of that—the electric connection is something I adore. Soulmate things I love include in every version of every reality, in another life, fated to be separated again and again.
- Regency AUs.
- Fake dating within the canon setting.
- Arranged marriage within the canon setting.
- Time travel and time loops, especially timefuckery where everything is fucked up!
- In-world mythology.
- Cultural differences and clashes that occur due to cultural differences.
- Worldbuilding in general.
- Battle couples!
- Lovers to enemies.
- Enemies to lovers.
- Trope subversions.
- I have A Thing for sister/sister, and focusing on the sister aspects of the relationship—how they're alike and how they're different, and just how they're sisters.
- Competence porn!
- I also adore people being messes and general failboats, because, uh, contradictions?
- I have zero problems with fics dealing with misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, racism etc. I like realism, but not overly-depressing fics or fics centered on issues at the expense of characterization. (I define 'overly-depressing' as continuous angst focusing on Issues and Only Issues.)
- All the things that could've happened, but didn't.
Tone, Setting, and Miscellaneous Things
- Characters dancing and spending time outdoors.
- Characters in situations that shouldn't be funny, but are.
- Characters who're comfortable around each other, and who tease and laugh with each other.
- Slice-of-life fics and, for relationships, a look at all the quirks/annoyances of cohabitation.
- Banter! I feel like I've repeated this a million times in this letter, but I adore banter!
- Casual situations and everyday annoyances
- Characters playing pranks on each other.
- Generally over-the-top things played straight.
- Drama interspersed with humor.
- Characters sleeping on each other, making out for hours, drinking from the same cup, and generally being adorable!
- Characters solving mysteries and going on journeys together!
- Bittersweetness.
- All the hard questions with no answers, characters trapped in unsolvable dilemmas, loss and grief and moving on.
- Gallows humour, and humour in otherwise dark situations generally.
- And just humour in general.
- And if you want to go in the crack-y direction, I wouldn't mind that as well!
- I adore OFCs and textual ghosts, for many, many reasons.
- I'm more than fine with most side relationships, unless stated otherwise.
- Open relationships! Threesomes! Moresomes! Orgies!
- Transgender characters would be amazing, as would non-binary characters and just fucking with and/or ignoring traditional gender roles in general.
Character and Relationships Dynamics.
- Characters who and relationships which fall just short of the mark, the almost-most-not-quite. I think the closest word to this would be hamartia in its original sense?
- Hurt, and not necessarily comfort.
- Fucked-up families and messy friendships which really, really aren't good for the characters, but they love each other very much anyway. I don't mind either characters finding ways to move past the fucked-upness and the relationships end up flourishing, or moving past fucked-up-ness and leaving what they don't want behind, but I also don't mind a constant cycle of messing up.
- Found families!
- Intense friendships which play a central role in the characters' lives.
- For longer works, plotty fics are always welcome!
- Stoic and/or emotionally incompetent characters
- Characters finding ways to come to terms with themselves, with their pasts, and with their loved ones and/or finding their place in the world (think Circle of Life).
- Characters who're broken, characters who're tired, characters who're lost, characters who refuse to be found, characters who're hurt over and over again, characters who never ever win, characters who've given up. And characters who love, characters who give, characters who're selfless and kind even after everything they've been through, characters who give their all and then some more to people they love, characters who never give up, characters who keep on hoping and keep on fighting even beyond the bitter end. And characters who're a mixture of both types.
- I love characters with flaws and unpleasant qualities! Awesome ladies can be awesome and flawed :).
- I like relationships that are fated to end in tragedy, but I also really don't mind a pinch of humor with my angst, if that's your thing.
Stylistic Things for Fic
- I like all kinds of fic, so go wild—linear narrative, flashbacks, epistolary…whatever you think of is lovely, the more daring the better. I especially adore faux-historical documents and faux academia.
- Relatedly, interactive fiction!
- Characters teasing and bantering with each other.
- I don’t mind any type of POV (including second person!). In fact, POV switches and outside POVs on relationships would be lovely.
Smut Likes
- I will always want smut, even if I haven't explicitly requested it!
- I prefer a balance between sensuality, emotions, and physical sensations. Anything from playful to creepy is more than fine (although there are a few things I'd prefer not to see, as outlined in the kink DNWs).
- Helplessness and humiliation. These are the two main things I love in kinky smut, and everything else derives from there.
- Bantering and laughing during sex is lovely, as is gentleness.
- And banter between the dom and the sub in D/s scenes (which can edge towards slightly cruel on the dom's part!).
- Angry sex/hatesex, smut that gives off vibes of slightly creepy but in a way that can't be pinpointed
- Dubcon and emotional manipulation!
- Explorations of power dynamics. I especially like service submission, and power dynamics based on the characters' titles/positions! (I do confess to having a kink for honorifics and titles!)
- Doms having control over the sub's everyday minutiae (although for short periods of time—24/7/365 high-protocol D/s is a turn-off)
- Punishment play, especially unusual forms of discipline! (I don't like erotic spanking in and of itself, but spanking as punishment is great! And whatever interesting punishments you can come up with.)
- Corner time, especially kneeling on rice/somehow having to display themselves/after a spanking.
- In general, being put on display/having to put themselves on display.
- Tickling! Both playful tickling and tickle torture (bondage + tickling = yessss).
- Gags and other ways to prevent speech. And weirdly specific, but fingers of one character in the other's mouth.
- Groping, especially pulling breasts out of tops (and sometimes letting them just hang there, if you're into humiliation).
- Orgasm denial, especially chastity devices.
- Fuck-or-die scenarios.
- Creative bondage (including predicament bondage. No, strike that, especially predicament bondage, and especially if the predicament is partly psychological).
- Similarly, ordering a partner to stay still/hold a certain pose.
- Incest kink.
- Hairpulling.
- Directed masturbation (one character instructing the other how to masturbate).
- Dirty talk (including long distance dirty talk).
- Navels, inner things, ribs, and kinks for these body parts.
- (Not really a like, but I'm afraid my AO3 bookmarks won't say much about my smut likes, because I have a separate account for smutty bookmarks. Sorry.)
Darker Likes
- Dark places and enchantments which entrap people without their knowledge
- Getting lost in creepy surroundings
- Corruption and decay
- Explorations of the darker side of magic (or its equivalent), especially magic that's considered 'good'.
- Exploration of the supernatural aspects of the canons.
- Nature being eerily alive and dangerous.
- Child soldiers, trauma, and really ugly, messy wars.
- Characters trapped in vicious cycles.
- Characters who think they're 'not good enough' for their partner(s).
- Situations where characters are blackmailed/coerced into doing things they don't want to do.
- Fucked-up families and friendships and relationships; people codependent to the point of almost-insanity, and far beyond anything healthy.
- Looking into messed-up characters' thought processes.
- Terrible things being done in the name of good by characters who see themselves as good.
- Perversion of the 'good' side of magic to do evil things.
- Mindfucks and powerplay.
- Torture for the sake of torture, and characters being stoic through torture.
- Noncon. I like both works focused on sexy (for fic and art purposes) noncon as well as more seriously-dealt with noncon and noncon aftermath.
- Pregnancy due to noncon.
- Badtouch that doesn't lead to noncon, it's just there and creepy. (Especially when coupled with emotional fuckery and mindgames.)
- Relationships where one characters is in love, but the other isn't.
- Partners doing terrible things to each other.
- Characters who hate themselves and lash out at the world and do fucked-up things as a result.
- Really, really dark stories which end in the 'everyone dying' sort of tragedy.
- AUs where everything goes wrong.
- For darkfic especially, I love outsider PoVs—it makes everything 100% more terrible for me.
Art-Specific Likes and Prompts
- I adore all kinds of jewellery—the more elaborate the better!
- And elaborate hairdos! And elaborate clothes! And elaborate makeup!
- I do, however, also enjoy seeing characters in their workaday attire, doing everyday things.
- Characters with visible height differences from each other!
- Elaborate weapons
- In-universe art. (Famous portraits, posters for events, propaganda/health-and-safety leaflets, handwritten notes, maps etc.)
- In-universe statues and tapestries and architecture
- Court settings with pomp and circumstance or everyday life are both things I enjoy seeing.
- I also enjoy seeing outdoor settings. Lakes, mountains, spooky forests, bustling cities, rivers, tiny hamlets, cottages, forests...
- Specific canon locations (like the Withywindle for Tolkien, the Spirit World for A:tLA etc.)
- Studies in opposites
- Limited palettes
- Non-traditional art mediums would be welcome.
- Characters doing things they love together (I know this sounds very pairing-specific, but I'd lovelovelove this for friends and/or parents and children and/or siblings, too).
- Ceremonies and events (coronations, balls, feasts, weddings etc.)
- Picnics, garden parties, outdoor events, riding, hunting etc.
- Characters arguing or debating with each other.
- Starlight and warm colors and pastels.
- Colour palettes that fit the character (golds and greens for Goldberry in Tolkien, for example, or shades of red for Natasha Romanov in MCU)
- Characters passionate with and about each other and about things they love
- Seasonal settings (falling leaves or snowed-over land or flower-filled meadows or golden fields etc.)
- Characters fighting and having each other's backs, and, for A:TLA, bending!
- Bloodied and bruised characters leaning on each other on on the nearest available upright surface after a hard battle
- Characters facing each other across the battlefield (especially friends-turned-enemies)
- Gift-giving, both literal and metaphorical
- Characters reading or writing
- Characters in libraries/otherwise surrounded by books
- Characters who've fallen asleep (in bed, on a pile of books, sprawled across the sofa, on the floor, on another character—anywhere, any place, any time)
- Characters in meetings/teams seated around tables or in lounges
- For modern-era canons, airports!
- Characters who look messy and/or rumpled and tired and way too fucking busy why is this my life
- Possessive touches (one character having their arm around another, hand at the small of back, cupping another character’s face etc)
- Characters in a private moment.
- Casually intimate gestures, like handholding or hands on shoulders or arms around waists/on shoulders, or just reaching out to adjust the other's clothing
- Kneeling and hand-kissing for pairings where I specify loyalty kink, or for gen or shippy combinations which involve a superior and subordinate in a setting where kneeling would work
- Forehead kissing!
- Kissing and making out, especially making out in bed/in unusual places and/or a significant height difference between characters
- Tickling and playful tussling
- Day-to-day activities (eating, bathing, morning rituals etc.)
- Characters being cheesy or tender or dorky or awkward with each other (or all or some of these!).
- All the smutty things I've indicated in the smut section! For art especially, a visual focus on power difference (standing/kneeling, clothed/unclothed etc.), looking well-fucked and/or humiliated, straining against bondage, decorative bondage.
Genre-Specific Stuff
- Action/Adventure: fight scenes between individuals ◈ big battle scenes ◈ going on quests/missions ◈ fighting bad guys together ◈ period-typical/canon-typical weapons ◈ characters being very very good at fighting/tactics/strategy ◈ strategy and tactics in general ◈ movements of large armies ◈ end-of-the world scenarios ◈ high-stakes battles or missions ◈ covert operations ◈ supernatural elements being involved in the mix in canons with supernatural/magical elements ◈ fighting techniques ◈ plotty missionfic
- Angst: musings on futility □ hopeless situations and things falling apart □ characters' flaws getting the better of them □ battles being lost □ stuck in situations without support □ forced to deceive loved ones □ unhappy endings □ everything that could go wrong going wrong □ (internalized or otherwise) homophobia □ struggles with religion/faith/belief □ ethical/moral dilemmas □ misunderstandings □ feeling unloved □ being forced to hurt loved ones and do other bad things □ having to compromise on their ideals □ Hobson's choice situations □ betrayals of trust □ star-crossed lovers or the platonic version of this □ the world changing and leaving the characters behind □ things being lost to the ravages of time
- in spaaaace ◎ different canon format (eg: musicals –> TV scripts) ◎ tone changes (eg: drama to comedy, tragedy to romance) ◎ crackification ◎ adding magic/supernatural elements to canons ◎ focusing on a different aspect of a story than the canon does
- Established Relationship: arguments and fights ○ vicious cycles ○ drama ○ compromising and learning to live together ○ date nights ○ banter and flirting ○ falling into bed together after a long day ○ characters organizing their lives around each other ○ unhealthy, obsessive relationships ○ smut ○ meeting the family ○ acquiring pets and/or kids and/or property
- Getting Together: meet-cutes (including canon divergence AUs) ◌ angst about each others' feelings ◌ obstacles that have to be overcome ◌ A is convinced B doesn't like them ◌ characters who haven't met in canon meeting for the first time ◌ fake dating leads to real dating ◌ fucking for the greater good ◌ something makes them do it ◌ enemies to lovers ◌ friends to lovers ◌ soulmate AUs ◌ reincarnation AUs ◌ slow burn ◌ hey I just met you this is crazy ◌ one night stands to lovers ◌ angst over not being allowed to be together ◌ A has been hurt by other people in the past and has to slowly fall for B ◌ unrequited love turning requited ◌ A falls for B, who's been nursing a crush on A since forever
- Hurt/Comfort: noncon aftermath ◘ torture aftermath ◘ recovering from an abusive relationship ◘ other kinds of post-abuse trauma ◘ injury aftermath ◘ characters stitching themselves together ◘ partner/other person hurting character and then comforting them ◘ PTSD (in a canon-appropriate way) ◘ contrast between current gentleness and past violence ◘ the comfort not helping with certain instinctual reactions (touch aversion, flinching, hyperawareness, hypersensitivity etc.) ◘ comforter feeling helpless in the face of comfortee's issues ◘ two hurt/fucked-up characters trying to comfort each other ◘ attempts to comfort/make things better backfiring ◘ comfortee refusing to accept comfort
- miscommunication ◍ wanting different things in life ◍ wanting different things from each other ◍ betrayal ◍ lying to friends/partners ◍ arguments ◍ blow-ups that have been a long time coming ◍ deliberate miscontsructions ◍ deliberately hurting each other ◍ unintentionally hurting each other
- Slice of Life: I love seeing glimpses into character's everyday lives in canon-appropriate ways. I love slice-of-life fics as insight into characters' backstories and histories, as well as as looks into their heads and as ways to figure out what's making them tick, or to make it clear that the characters' everyday lives are immensely atypical/fucked up. I also love these kinds of fic as worldbuilding vehicles.
Agent Carter
- Can I just say 'I'd love absolutely ANYTHING for this fandom'? Because if I were to compile a complete list of everything I adore about Agent Carter I'd probably be here all day. I love all the characters and ship basically everything in Agent Carter.
- I am ridiculously sad that the show was cancelled, so anything post-Season Two would be great.
- Since I can't say 'anything' (or, well, I could but it wouldn't be helpful): I adore the secret spy shenanigans and Peggy's over-the-top badassery. All the secret agent things are ridiculously iddy for me.
- I love the very human antagonists and the handwavey science of Season One, but I also love the supernatural elements (and obviously again handwavey science) of Season Two.
- International conspiracies and shadowy spy organizations!
- I love how magnified everything is (and I think Agent Carter is a lot more comics-style than the MCU).
- I love that Peggy is arrogant and over-confident and dismissive and kind of an asshole. (Also a great person, but she has flaws that aren't tied to her being a woman and I adore that, and also Agent Carter was actually what made me ship Peggy/Steve because they are ridiculously similar and yet completely different.)
- The humour! I love Peggy's deadpan humour especially.
- I also love that Peggy is the only female agents in an organization of, um, male agents, and she faces and fights misogyny even after she's proved herself over and over again, but she also has lots of significant female relationships and there's no Exception To The Norm narrative.
- I also love what little we got to see of Peggy with the Howling Commandos and how much more comfortable she is in the field than behind a desk.
- The end of Season Two left so many threads open, but then Season Three didn't happen and I'm so disappointed. So maybe something set post-canon?
Howard Stark/Steve Rogers
I loved the whole idolization Howard had going for Steve in S1, and how much Steve factored into Howard's motivations, and Howard's search for Steve (it kills me that he kept looking even after all reasonable people would have stopped, after even Peggy stopped—that is not a man who has dealt with his grief), and I love that Howard has built Steve into a perfect person in his head. I am here for one-sided Howard/Steve as well as completely requited Howard/Steve and all the shades in-between.
Steve and Howard stealing a moment between missions for each other, maybe? Or Howard going out onto the field with Steve (and getting injured)? Either way, I'd love something that captures how fragile and fleeting their relationship would be in war (especially with the state of flux the army's attitude towards homosexuality was in in WWII, if you want to go in that direction). Or something playing with the fact that Steve is, essentially, Howard's creation? (Howard running tests on Steve/the serum? Possessive creepiness if you want to go in a darker direction?)
Or if you want to write/draw lots of angst, I'd love angst! Howard collecting photographs and piles upon piles of mementos of Steve, maybe? Or looking at a photograph of Steve (or the two of them together) pinned up somewhere in his study/workroom or which he carries in his pocket? Or something about the search for Steve, how he looks and looks and never gives up? Or, less angstily, an AU where he somehow survives until Steve is discovered (and maybe even Steve being discovered sometime earlier?)
Or angst while Steve's alive would be great, too! Maybe Howard looking at Steve from afar and pining over him, or fucking other people to get Steve out of his mind only it doesn't help (and Steve stumbling upon him at some point), or they have sex but Steve doesn't love Howard, or Hydra releasing some sort of sex pollen that makes them fuck and then the aftermath of that when they realize what happened (and this last one can go a less angsty way too!)?
Avatar: The Last Airbender
- I love the mix of darkness and humor in A:TLA—it's one of my favourite things about it. Also how deeply fucked up it is. Give me all the fucked-up childhoods and child soldiers and dictators! Fucked-up childhoods especially are a Thing for me. Bending! Bending is another wonderful thing, and I'd love explorations of the hows and whys of bending for fic. And for art, bending and the elements and all the different fighting styles Exploring the roots of bending, having fun with bending, the darker side of bending—I'd adore it all!
- Spirits and the supernatural and all the otherwordly aspects of the A:TLA world! I especially love the spirits' inability to distinguish between different humans.
- Worldbuilding—the past of the A:TLA world and the politics of said world are things I always love to see being explored.
- I love the character arcs for basically all the characters, and I'd adore something set in the future, because I want to see what happens to them! Bridging the gap between A:TLA and LoK would be particularly lovely.
- Speaking of LoK, LoK and A:TLA sometimes have wildly different interpretations of events (lion-turtles and the origin of the Avatar comes to mind), so something about that, maybe?
Roku/Sozin
Something angsty for both fic and art, please, or bittersweet, or completely, utterly, fucked up. Unrequited love or mutual pining that's never resolved in more than fine with me, and, for fic, questions about loyalty and what being the Avatar means, and maybe some Fire Nation culture/lore.
What did Roku's and Sozin's childhood look like? Were they lovers as boys, or did they fumble with each other and explore but not really talk about their feelings, or did one of them pine for the other from afar? Did they train together? Did they communicate in any way at all after Roku became Avatar—were there unwritten letters and sleepless nights? Or did they sort of maintain a rapport for some time before time and each others' new responsibilities broke their relationship down?
Or, anything to do with Fire Nation politics, and how Sozin's personal feelings are deeply tangled with his politics as he rises to become tyrant? How does the Fire Nation become the absolutist state it is in A:TLA—surely it didn't happen overnight?
For art, I'd love flames and fire—they're both firebenders, after all! And maybe dragons, too? Or the two of them sharing each other's company before Roku is chosen as Avatar. Or maybe Sozin and Roku facing each other or thinking of each other after everything goes wrong?
Crossover Fandom
For crossover I’d love crossovers, fusions, holes in the fabric of the universe etc. Just anything you can do to make these characters interact. Worldbuilding is a bonus!
Jack Harkness (Doctor Who/Torchwood) & Steve Rogers, Jack Harkness (Doctor Who/Torchwood)/Steve Rogers
Both these characters are men out of their time and they have a lot in common; I’d love to see them meet.
Do they meet for the first time during WWII? What does Steve think of the American volunteer serving in the RAF? Do they bond in the middle of the war? Do they have any missions together? Does Steve stumble upon something Jack is doing for Torchwood? (Or do they meet before Jack met the Doctor, somehow? Maybe in the missing two years or while he was a Time Agent?)
Or Steve and Jack meeting, or reuiniting, in the 21st century? Maybe SHIELD wants information about Torchwood and sends Steve to do recon? Or SHIELD and Torchwood meet up? Or they meet on accident while Jack is in the US for some reason?
The two of them kissing, or talking, or fighting back to back? (Or a situation where they fight each other?)
Or maybe something about Jack’s immortality? Would Steve understand the consequences of Jack never being able to die? (Hurt/comfort, maybe?)
Josh Lyman (The West Wing)/Steve Rogers
Josh and Steve meeting would be very interesting to me. I’d love to see anything about how the two of them meet, and fall in love. (Or hook up for a night, either one is good.)
If Santos had a second term, is Josh still Chief of Staff when Steve is unfrozen? If so, do they meet at a function or event? Or when/if Steve visits the White House for whatever reason? Or maybe they run into each other without realizing who the other is?
Or maybe Santos not having a second term or Josh not being CoS anymore—how do they meet? Is it something mundane like running into each other at a coffee shop? Or does Josh work for SHIELD or consult/advise for them and they meet like that? Or is Josh in NYC when the Chiaturi invade, and Steve rescues him? Or at a political fundraiser? Or do Josh and Steve meet in the years between CW and IW?
Does Steve get a sneak-a-peak moment into Josh’s job? For that matter, what do the two of them think of each other’s jobs, which are both very save-the-world but in extremely different ways? What does Steve think of the various compromises Josh makes for his job, and the complications of politics?
Or the two of them being soulmates, and/or getting married for whatever reason—what would the reaction from the public, press, and political figures be to their marriage?
Does Steve meet Santos and the West Wing staff at some point? Or maybe CJ or Toby? Or Josh meeting the Avengers? Or just the two of them making out on Josh’s desk, or in the Oval Office.
Hamilton – Miranda
- Art-specific prompts, because I have less art prompts for this section:
- Period costumes!
- Alternately, the characters in different settings than canon (this canon is particularly ripe for that sort of re-imagining).
- Moments from the album visualised, because again, this canon is particularly good for that.
- 'Between the scenes' moments.
- Unusual art styles, specifically for this canon because it fits.
- Anything that re-creates the atmosphere of the musical.
- Moments in the musical + just add nakedness.
- This is my newest fandom (I know, I know, how did I not get into Hamilton at some poi t during the last two and a half years? It's a long story) and I am still in the everything has a shiny glow and I LOVE EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING stage, so you can't go wrong here. Seriously.
- I'm still very very slowly going through fanworks so forgive me if my prompts are things that everyone has written/drawn at some point and is completely sick of by now.
- I don't mind whatever level of historical accuracy you go with—history what history, kind of sort of accurate, as accurate as you can get within the confines of the show, whatever. (I'm basically finished with Chernow's Hamilton bio and moving on to the Washington one, so.) The only thing I ask is that you keep the things LMM changed.
- Speaking of which, I really love the themes of how history will reflect you and how you're remembered is based on who tells your story that echo through the show.
- For M/M and F/F (this is more fic-specific), I'd love to see period-typical homophobia and the sneaking around and near-discoveries etecetra that would result in.
- For this show especially, I'm a fan of canon divergence AUs, alternate histories etc. Just all the what-if moments, please.
- Also, genderswap! I'm very interested in what'd happen if any of the characters were of the opposite gender. Just please make sure that if you're switching genders for a M/M or F/F ship, you switch the genders of both characters unless I'm explicitly okay with it being otherwise.
- Whatever cast you want to use (current Broadway/OBC/Chicago/West End etc.) to base art/descriptions off is fine! Just not actual historical figures' faces/appearances, please.
Aaron Burr/George Washington
Okay, so the maybe thirty seconds in Right Hand Man are pure gold and, um, yeah. I ship it. Burr's eagerness to get into Washington's good graces! Washington's annoyance with Burr sucking up to him (and the fact that he rarely shows his annoyance but he did at to Burr)! Burr somehow managing to say the exact things which will piss him off! And 'close the door on your way out' following Burr's eager 'sir' is just...ughhhhh I love this pairing so much ♥.
I'd be interested in seeing Washington run into Burr at some point after he dismisses him so thoroughly. Does Burr show his resentment at Hamilton's rise in prominence, and does it anger Washington? Or maybe Washington is angry about a loss and Burr unintentionally aggravates him until he takes out his wrath on Burr, whether that's through words or violence or sex (or all three is good)?
Or maybe an AU where Washington meets Burr earlier? Does he still not like him very much? Or maybe Burr somehow becoming Washington's aid? (And maybe Burr's rivalry with Hamilton annoying Washington?)
Or maybe in Act II, Burr does get his wish to be at the right hand of the father, except not the way he imagined? He imagined himself standing, not on all fours, kneeling. Or any kind of political battle when Burr's Senator that ends in Burr being thoroughly tongue-lashed (and otherwise-lashed) by Washington?
Maybe something playing with how Burr brings out the worst/pettiest part of Washington, if that's your thing? And for art specifically, in addition to the things above, I love how Burr's all stiff and formal while Washington is still majestic as fuck but also less beholden to protocol, as it were, when they're talking, and I love the visual cues which all point to how much Burr is subordinated to Washington and how it's really Washington who's in charge here.
Alexander Hamilton/Gilbert du Motier Marquis de Lafayette/George Washington
I like a lot of the same things for all my Hamilton ships (power dynamics, almost-insubordination and military hierarchies, secrecy and sneaking around and repression and guilt and almost-discoveries and discoveries, politics, cultural/class difference clashes, father/mentor figures). Art prompts especially are very similar, so I'm just going to list a few art things instead of going into detail: riding into battle, stolen moments away from camp/in a locked room or closet, huddling for warmth in a cold situation, Washington looming over the other two, being all in each other's personal spaces.
Hamilton and Lafayette performing (sexually or otherwise) under Washington's command! Fic or art, this is such a delicious scenario, whether it involved letter-writing, war tactics, meetings, kissing, fucking each other etc. Also, punishments for transgressions, and never let it be said that Washington isn't creative!
Also, do Lafayette and Hamilton sometimes get competitive over Washington's affections (despite Hamilton being more reluctant to respond because he's prickly like that)? Is Washington wistful of the time Lafayette and Hamilton spend together? Are two of them in a relationship before the other is brought in, and does it cause issues? In general, how do they sort through their relationship?
Also, extra angst and repression issues, because Washington is fucking two boys, and not only does that lead to a greater risk of discovery, it's also even more precarious politically and it's almost certainly Lafayette and Hamilton who're going to face the most consequences.
Alexander Hamilton/George Washington/Thomas Jefferson
Washington and his quarrelling secretaries! I love Washington's exasperation with their arguments, and his attempts at keeping peace and avoiding partisanship, and Hamilton and Jefferson just going at it and tearing into each other. And I love that Hamilton is closer in Washington's confidence than Jefferson (at least in the musical), and how much Washington's reliance on Hamilton and agreement with Hamilton pisses Jefferson off (there is a definite undertone of senapi hasn't noticed me D: there!).
Maybe Washington orders his secretaries to make up, in some way or the other, because he's sick of their constant arguing, and they do, somehow, because they do both want to please him? (Does Washington lock them in a cupboard :D? Or maybe take them both on holiday somewhere?) Or maybe he punishes them because they're constantly fighting and they need some discipline, and if they're behaving like children he'll treat them like children?
Or maybe a v-shaped relationship with Hamilton and Jefferson both being very into Washington (if in different ways), but still loathing each other? Do they get very competitive of each other and pissed off at each other? Are there spats of jealously and hurt feelings? Do they get into fights with each other, and does Jefferson quit more than his Cabinet post when he resigns?
Or is it unrequited love/lust for Washington that both brings Hamilton and Jefferson together and divides them? Perhaps they have sex with each other because of their mutual admiration/lust for Washington and then hate each other (and grow to hate Washington?) because of that?
Or maybe Jefferson is jealous of Hamilton's perceived closeness to Washington (whether or nit they're actually close and have actually been intimate with each other) and acts out and gets pissed off and resigns because of that? With lots of annoyed stares at each other and Hamilton smirking at Jefferson, if you're so inclined. Perhaps Jefferson stumbles upon Washington and Hamilton in bed together? (Maybe Washington invites him to join them, thus pissing off both Hamilton and Jefferson?)
George III of the United Kingdom/George Washington
I love all of George (the King)'s dirtybadwrong twisted love songs, and two of them are very directly placed in opposition to Washington's major songs (I Know Him is basically an ode to Washington! And also I feel kind of sorry for King George after 'I wasn't aware that was something a person(???) could do'), and the other is about a battle which Washington won. So: Wave loves dubcon abusive relationship: the George/George edition.
Size kink! (I mean, come on. 'Oceans rise, empires fall, next to Washington they all look small'? And John Adams being called the 'little guy' in comparison to Washington?) I can very much see George as a power bottom, because he's totally in love with Washington's stature and magnificence, both literal and metaphorical. (Washington, of course, is reluctant, but for some reason doesn't have a choice. Whatever reason.) Also, maybe George getting off on being the subbiest of subs for Washington, but only by his very specific direction? Or non-sexual visual size differences, whether art or fic, are very, very great, especially if in contrast with power differences!
Washington never visited England in his life time, as far as I'm aware, but what if he did? (Or what if he actually did and I just didn't know?) He's long had an inferiority complex about the power the English have over the colonies, judging by the biography I'm reading right now, and also an annoyance at the limitations placed on the colonials by their English overlords, so maybe something about that and how that relates to meeting the king? Or maybe he goes to England to petition the king on behalf of the colonies, and has to submit himself to the king for that? Or, alternately, an AU where England wins the war, and he's brought there in chains to be judged by the king? (Perhaps he's supposed to be executed, but George has 'mercy' on him and decides to keep him as a pet? (I know how that's not how it works. Shhhh.))
Washington kneeling to the King (albeit reluctantly/because he's literally forced to in chains)! Visual contrasts between the two! George's 'tender' caresses that Washington loathes, it's very clear he loathes it, but he has to stand it (noncon groping/kissing is my jam).
I confess I don't have many ideas for non-noncon./dubcon for this pairing, but I'd love it if you do have ideas for less dark things (and crack! I'd love crack!) you want to put into play.
George Washington/Gilbert du Motier Marquis de Lafayette
This is a ship based on the thirty seconds in Guns and Ships between Lafayette and Washington, and also based on the fact that Lafayette and Washington were by all amounts crazy close (I mean, Georges Washington Lafayette? And also Washington almost fucking the entire war up by entrusting Lafayette with a command that was diplomatically iffy? Yeah, sign me the fuck up). The way Lafayette is ridiculously informal with Washington (his salute is so so sloppy), the way he's all up in Washington's personal space and they stand reaaaally close together, the way Lafayette basically respectfully orders Washington to get Hamilton back (the way Daveed say 'but' on the OCR, I wish I could convey how many feels that word sends through me)—all of them point to the fact that I now ship the two of them very, very much.
So, yeah. Anything set during the Revolutionary War would be great. I'd love to see the rapport and trust between them (maybe even through and outsider's eyes?). Do they work very well with each other? Does Washington become afraid of what he's sending Lafayette off to do sometimes, that maybe he's sending him to his death (but sends him off anyway, because his country's need > any one person, no matter how much Washington cares about that person)? Do they clash over policies sometimes, get frustrated with each other? (Clashes due to cultural differences, maybe?) Or, in Act II, does Lafayette get frustrated and feel betrayed by Washington's decision not to intervene in France? What goes through his mind when he sends Georges off to Washington? Anything else political?
Also, Lafayette basically seeing Washington as a father-figure? Play with that if you want to, and go as dirtybadwrong as you want to. Washington being conflicted about his feelings towards Lafayette, and angst. Power dynamics (Washington's Lafayette commanding officer, after all), and everything else. (Does Washington ever have to punish Lafayette for a transgression, or calm him down if he's too jittery/excited?)
Maybe Washington greeting Lafayette when he comes back to camp, or sending him off? Or maybe a private moment between the two of them—in Washington's study, in his workroom, in the forest where no-one can see—where they let down their guards, kissing or just leaning against each other, or massages? Or maybe a quiet moment between the two of them, but in the midst of battle/otherwise surrounded by others? Or Lafayette foiling a plot on Washington's life? Being almost discovered by someone, or actually discovered, and if the latter, does that change anything? Or if you want to go very angsty, Lafayette visiting Washington's grave when he comes back to America years and years and years later?
Marvel Cinematic Universe
- Fandom-specific DNWs: Bucky/Nat and Darcy Lewis, including passing mentions.
- I'd prefer that Coulson, Loki, Tony, Peter Parker, and Vision aren't main characters, please.
- There's such a vast world to play in in the MCU, and so much of the characters' lives we don't know about because of the way time works in the movies! There's a lot of room for exploration and worldbuilding. My favourite MCU movies are the Cap movies, and I'd love to see what happens between them (and the. Avengers movies)! Between Avengers & TWS, between TWS & AoU, between AoU & CW—I'm really curious as to what happens in the in-between years where obviously important stuff has happened.
- I'm very interested in politics for this fandom, because so much of the storyline is influenced by in-world politics which we don't get to see. For example, HYDRA's ideology, the politics behind the US supersoldier program, Project Insight being authorized, the Accords—there's so much to explore.
- CW brought up some interesting questions about the fact that the majority of the problems the Avengers deal with are things they've caused, albeit sometimes necessarily, so maybe something about that.
- For this fandom especially I'd love to see outsider POVs, whether that be people who are working closely with the characters or people who only see the characters on TV.
- I love the sheer scale of the events of the movies, so maybe something about that?
- There's a common thread of the end not justifying the means across the Cap movies, so something about that, maybe?
- With so many supervillains floating around, there's plenty of room for lots of H/C (or H without C) with characters being captured and tortured and injured.
- I love fun and asskicking and just superheroes being superheroes too.
- I adore the fact that the characters have very individual senses of humour!
- Other things I'm not fond of include AoS in general, the way AoS handled SHIELD in particular, all the Avengers living at the Avengers tower (especially post-Avengers but pre-TWS; I don't really mind pre-AoU since there's some element of canon to it).
Alexander Pierce/Steve Rogers
I find the one scene they had together so very interesting. Pierce is trying to manipulate Steve, but it isn't working, and Steve does appear to realize that there's something fishy going on, if only because of Fury's 'trust no-one'. And then there's the obvious visual power differences, and Pierce not getting what he wants from Steve and hunting him down in the most twisted way, and yep, that scene hits my id very, very hard.
Does Pierce follow Steve's work at S.H.I.E.L.D. with interest, because Captain America who destroyed HYDRA? Or maybe an AU where Pierce doesn't die and is captured instead, or any other reason for them to meet again? Or post-Endgame, does 2023!Steve encounter Pierce when he’s going to replace the Stones? I'd just love explorations of their different ideologies, and any and all things you want to write/draw for them.
Non-con or dub-con are both great, if you want to go in a more consensual direction that's also great (although I think the latter would require a lot more work?). If you're going in the non-con direction, Pierce capturing Steve and keeping him under his thumb? (Non-con groping and badtouch!) Or an AU with a Steve/Pierce abusive relationship/fake-gentle relationship in the lead-up to TWS?
Or creepy voyeurism, with Pierce listening in on the bugs in Steve's apartment/watching him in some other way?
Erik Killmonger/T'Challa
I came out of Black Panther shipping them like burning because holy fuck. Holy fuck. I love their dynamics in the movie, and it helps that both actors are ridiculously attractive.
I love the tragedy of Erik's story (T'Challa's in relation to Erik's too), how he's become a monster because of a harsh, unforgiving world, and I love the inevitability of his death and the terrible waste and tragedy of his life, and I love that he was at least partially right. And I love that he's a dark mirror of T'Challa and of Wakanda, reflecting all the ugly parts of Wakanda that the characters from Wakanda don't want to see.
What if N'Jadaka had been brought to Wakanda, either by his father or after his father died by Zuri or T'Chaka? Or what if his father hadn't died, somehow? What would change, and what wouldn't? How would that change his dynamic with T'Challa? Would they have grown up as cousins, on friendlier terms, and worked together?
Or what if T'Challa somehow makes Erik live? (Or he lives through the intervention of the heart-shaped herb?) Does he stand trial for his crimes? How does he react to his non-death and to T'Challa? What does he think of T'Challa's outreach efforts? Does he eventually find peace, or does he always remain restless and angry, at T'Challa and at Wakanda? (And does hatesex happen if so or is it all UST?)
What would have happened if T'Challa and Erik had met earlier, before Erik was ready to set his plans in motion, maybe even before T'Chaka dies? Would that have changed anything? Or would the story have spiralled towards eventual tragedy anyway? Or maybe an AU where T'Challa is captured instead of 'killed', or they kiss/fuck at some point during the story.
Most ProblematicTM request: I would love to see Erik tied up preferably in chains at T'Challa's feet and/or T'Challa gently domming the fuck out of Erik, if that's your thing, or Erik shoving T'Challa around. Or angry, rough, bruising sex, please, with or without panther suits!
Senator Brandt/Steve Rogers
Steve being able to see through politician's bullshit had to come from somewhere—did he cultivate this ability due to prolonged exposure to Senator Brandt? Did Steve actually believe some part of the Senator's spiel? I'd love something, anything, about the WWII propaganda machine that Steve was a huge part of, and that in the films Senator Brandt seems to be helping to orchestrate.
Or maybe, if you want to go in that direction, dubcon/noncon, with Senator Brandt abusing his authority (and/or plain being abusive) to get Steve into his bed? Or just Steve on his knees in front of Senator Brandt, still adorned with the American flag. Or does Senator Brandt (and maybe some other politicians) make use of Steve's body because it's obviously government body? Do they pimp him out to fill the Treasury's coffers? (Is Steve coerced into believing that he's providing a service for his country?)
Or maybe Steve keeps pressuring Brandt to send him into battle but Brandt doesn't cave? Or maybe Brandt keeps Steve as a pampered pet?
Or, if you can spin this, maybe they actually do fall for each other, somehow? Through prolonged contact with each other? Brandt wooing Steve or vice versa? Steve trying to find some sort of depth in Brandt and oops, accidentally caring for him?
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
- Please no everyone lives/some people live AUs unless I specifically ask for them? The point of Rogue One, for me, is that everyone dies (and, personally, I don't think there's anything left for any of them if they do live), so I'd prefer not to see this. No unrequested AUs from the movie at all, please? (I don't mind picking and choosing details from the book at all, though! That's what I love to do. And if I ask for AUs then they're more than fine.) The main thing I love about Rogue One is the nitty-gritty behind-the-scene details, and the toll the Rebellion takes on all its members.
- I'd adore backstory and generally terrible things they've done (because I don't think any of them haven't done one or two awful things).
- Quick Cassian note: I love that he's a tortured idealist who's done awful things (seriously, Cassian/self-loathing is my OTP, and Cassian selling his integrity for the Rebellion is something I'd love to see, as is calculating!Cassian), so please don't make him a person who hasn't done bad things? Also for Jyn, although she's actually more Han Solo type, and I love that! (I would seriously love to see Jyn having been a smuggler at some point.)
- I'd love more on the workings of the Rebellion, and all the petty annoyances, and also, for characters who are part of the Rebellion, Rebellion missions.
- I'd love to see traumatized, exhausted characters stretched to their limits, and exhausted, harried leaders stretched to their limits.
- Smutty things: lots and lots of loyalty kink, please, and superior officers/people under them, and kneeling and D/s. The command hierarchies of both the Empire and the Rebellion are just made for this!
- The Empire—I'd love to see more about what sort of things they do.
- The Force, and the Jedi, and explorations of that, and what legends about the Jedi and stories about them remain in the Empire.
- This is a general Star Wars thing, but I love the various planets, and I'd love whatever new planets you come up with! Also cultures of various planets and culture clashes?
- There's a lot of moral grey area in Rogue One and I love that, so something about that? Especially how extremists are presented very neutrally and how the supposed 'good guys' do bad things, and, again, that's presented neutrally.
- For art: I love how worn and ragged everyone and their costumes look! And also, hair game. Star Wars hair game is strong.
Bail Organa/Cassian Andor
Okay, so Cassian seems to be pretty high up in the Rebellion hierarchy—I'm sure he interacts with Bail a lot. Maybe he's being sent off on one of the missions where he does terrible things, or maybe a mission report afterwards and he's pretty banged up? Or Bail has to send Cassian into a situation where there's a high chance that he'll be captured and tortured? (And then, of course, Cassian is captured and tortured, and all the hurt/comfort.) Or I'd love to see strategy meetings, behind-the-scene workings of the Rebellion. Or maybe Cassian and Bail working to remain professional despite their relationship? Or do they bring the Rebellion command hierarchy to bed with them?
Or Cassian being in the Rebellion since he was six—does that have anything to do with Bail? Is Bail a mentor to Cassian and does their relationship change into something else as Cassian grows up? Or does Cassian meet Bail as an adult and they become fuckbuddies/fall for each other/etc. at that point?
Also, Cassian's hair is really, really soft, and I would adore seeing Bail playing with it/stroking it.
Cassian Andor/Davits Draven
All the hierarchies and power dynamics here, please! I love the obedience Cassian gives to the Rebellion and, by extension, to Draven, his CO, and I love all the horrible things he must have done carrying out orders for the Rebellion. Draven must have been the one giving him those orders, so anything on that.
Does Draven attempt to get Cassian to deal with his guilt/PTSD (subtly or not-so-subtly), and fail? Does he have his own issues that he's not dealing with? Does he genuinely care about Cassian despite the sometimes unsavoury things he has to get Cassian to do? (What does he think when he's deliberately sending Cassian off to kill someone or to be captured and tortured?)
Or is he manipulating Cassian for his own purposes? Does he take advantage of his position fo authority over Cassian? Or maybe he doesn't think he's taking advantage but Cassian feels obliged so it's fucked up?
For art, power dynamics! Draven training Cassian or helping him to brush up on his skills, Cassian looking bruised and battered while giving a mission report, Cassian kneeling/saluting to Draven, Draven tracing one of Cassian's scars, Draven having to punish Cassian.
The Dragonfly Pool – Eva Ibbotson
Delderton and Bergania are both my favourite things, and I love the atmosphere of both places. I love Delderton for its quirkiness and its unusualness, and I love the grand, sweeping majesty of Bergania. And I love how much hope there is in both places, if that makes sense? Partly, of course, because we see things through Tally's eyes a lot and Tally is very much a hopeful person, but the descriptions of Delderton and Bergania are a lot more rich and vivid than, for example, of London (and I love the contrast).
AU ideas: maybe Matteo manages to unravel the assassination plot before it occurs, or the shot goes wild and misses Johannes (maybe Stilton is less competent than in canon), and the children get to meet the King? Maybe grown-up Tally and Julia visit Bergania after the war when its people are voting for their first President, and meet the former King? Maybe the German army invades Bergania, and Johannes has to flee with the aid of the children and of his people? Maybe Johannes sets up a government-in-exile in London, and when he goes down to Delderton to visit Karil and Matteo, Tally talks to him (and drags Julia along)?
Matteo von Tarlenheim/Johannes of Bergania
I love the tragedy of how they meet again after so many years, but were torn apart mere minutes later. Matteo avoiding Johannes (and all that lost time—did he have regrets, later, after Johannes death?), but Johannes seeing him anyway, how dramatic Johannes was in dragging Matteo out of the crowd, their embrace (like there was no-one else there now that is a shippy moment if I ever saw one), the words they spoke to each other (and I am burningly curious as to what those were), Johannes looking the way he hadn't looked after his wife had died, the friend Johannes loved as a boy, Matteo's 'No!', 'everything' (everything), Matteo's promise, 'the man he had loved beyond all others', Matteo on his knees, just—everything. Everything about that scene. And later—everything about the dragonfly pool scene, too, Matteo's memories and how Karil saw that his father wanted to be with Matteo.
And after—I'd love to see Matteo grieving and trying to deal with Johannes' death. We know that Matteo talked to Magda a lot about Johannes—maybe one of those conversations? And Karil—how does Matteo see him, entangled as Karil must be in Matteo's feelings about Johannes? And Matteo maybe finding a lover during/after the war, but everything about that lover reminds him of Johannes, or nothing does, and everything is messy and terrible?
And I very much wouldn't mind seeing a canon divergence AU where Johannes wasn't killed (not shot? Shot, but not fatally?), and they do get to have sex speak to each other later. How do they sort out all the painful things that must lie between them? Do they go back to their individual lives, or do they find a way to stay with each other? What would happen to their relationship during WW2, what with Matteo's work as an intelligence agent (although would that happen if Johannes hadn't died) and Johannes being King?
Or maybe something about their childhoods—I'd love to see Matteo and Johannes doing everything together, maybe including fumbling together as boys? Or the two of them at university, discovering that their care for each other extended beyond friendship? Or dealing with the fact that they can't be together fully, because Johannes is going to have marry (and maybe him actually falling for his wife feels like betrayal to Johannes, and it's very complicated there)? Or Johannes becoming 'cut off', and Matteo's feelings of betrayal at the pamphlet incident and him leaving? Or Johannes' feelings on Matteo leaving, and the two of them learning to live without each other? All the politics and/or angst, really, and the two of them figuring out their relationship together.
The West Wing
Absolutely no Josh/Donna, please. Past UST is fine, but please no present, acknowledged UST or any kind of relationship, future, past or present.
For this fandom especially I love loyalty and devotion. The relationships I've requested all involve characters who are extremely loyal to each other, and canon has a ridiculous amount of loyalty kink, and I'd love any kind of loyalty.
Canon-typical politics and drama is great. I love the politics and how it's done in the show, and however you want to play with that would be amazing! I especially love how competent the characters are at their jobs even if they're not as competent in their personal lives.
Fic/art of the future is also great! I'd also love to see pre-canon stuff.
For this show especially, I'd love to see canon divergence AUs.
TWW has lots of crossover potential with the MCU, DCEU, Harry Potter, Stargate (SG-1 and SGA), Madam Secretary etc. if you want to go in that direction.
Josh Lyman/Jed Bartlet
This is one of the relationships which, in the show, are still very important but not as prominent as some others, and certainly, from what I can see this is often very much unexplored in fandom, and I’d love to see more of it.
Josh is so intensely loyal to Jed (even when he isn’t completely Jed’s guy the way he becomes Santos’ and I’d love to see more of that if you want to go in that direction) and I would love to see that loyalty explored, whether in a romantic or non-sexual way. It’s part of the job description to take a bullet for the President, after all—what bullets has Josh taken, and what is he willing to do?
I’d love to see more of the paternalistic part of their relationship, as with Leo and Josh, if you want to. I don’t mind it taking on a sexual dimension, either, if you’re going to go in the relationship direction, or perhaps the romantic relationship being separate from the father/son feelings but still there.
Josh and Jed’s relationship is not always smooth despite Jed’s affection for Josh and Josh’s loyalty—anything about that would also be appreciated, especially maybe Jed’s blunt honesty with Josh.
During the transition from the Bartlet administration to the Santos administration, are there in particular skeletons that Josh helps put away? Does Josh keep any secrets from Santos during and after the transition for Bartlet, whether they be of personal nature or related to work?
Post-canon, does Josh ever call Jed and ask for advice, or just talk to him? Or maybe something set ten years or twenty years later, where are they? Do they still keep in touch, or is it an unexpected reunion?
Or maybe a moment from Jed getting to know Josh and gaining his loyalty on the campaign trail of Bartlet for America? Or once they come to the White House, all the joys and pitfalls of their jobs? Or Josh calling/meeting Jed while he’s campaigning for Santos, and all the feelings involved?
Josh Lyman/Leo McGarry
Pre-canon fic or art, maybe, a moment from Leo’s and Josh’s past? I get the impression from the flashback to Hoynes’ campaign that Leo and Josh hadn’t seen each other in some time, if that’s something you want to play with, but I’d also love the two of them being close pre-canon. (Did Josh know Mallory well pre-canon?)
I love Josh’s unwavering loyalty to Leo, how he’s really Leo McGarry’s man in every sense of what that means, and I’d love to see more of that loyalty—how did it come about, and how does it play out in everyday life both during the Bartlet for America campaign and in the White House?
Leo’s kind of paternalistic thing with Josh, but also how he trusts Josh absolutely and it’s Josh who (other than the President) knows most about Leo’s alcoholism and drug problems, and how Josh is willing to take a bullet for Leo but Leo doesn’t want him to—I’d love to see more of that too, the father/son relationship in particular. That dynamic bleeding into a sexual/romantic relationship and all the fucked upness thereof is good! Or I’d love to see any kind of scene where the two of them are doing some political manoeuvring together, either involving the others or just the two of them.
An AU where Leo lives would be interesting, maybe? But I’d also love to see Josh grieving Leo and dealing with being in the White House and being Santos’ Chief of Staff without Leo to lean on. Or, for art (or fic if you want) I’d love to see Josh in Leo’s old office with Leo’s ghost/essence/whatever hovering over him.
Josh Lyman/Matt Santos
As I said, loyalty and devotion are a big thing for me for this show, and the near-instantaneous loyalty Josh gives Matt, the strength and scope of that loyalty (how much must you trust a person that you want to literally entrust them with a country and with the world?), the fact that Matt is Josh’s guy in a way that Bartlet isn’t as much as Josh respects and admires and loves Bartlet, hits me in just the right place. I’d just love to get something that captures the feeling of their relationship.
I love the intensity of their relationship, how Matt becomes Josh’s guy so so quickly and he puts so much hope and faith in him (the whole thing about not having to know the education plan to know it’d be good, and it being different with a candidate he’s built up from scratch) but is still cautious and a foil to Matt’s idealism. And on Matt’s part, getting to know Josh and learning about him and the faith he puts in Matt, until by the end Josh is the one who can talk him down and the person he goes to for honest advice and to express his doubts. And I love that there’s a note of conflict in their relationship and it never really goes away, but there’s also so much overwhelming trust and loyalty.
I’d love to see quiet stolen moments on the campaign trail, Josh and Matt conferring on something or talking over a decision or strategy or just having a conversation. Or an alone in the crowd moment like they have so many times, where the two of them are in the middle of some bustling thing but it feels like it’s just them there. Or Matt getting to know Josh and learning about Josh and learning to trust him. Or a truly stolen moment, stolen kisses or Josh helping Matt relax.
I’d also love to see anything in the Santos administration with President Santos and his Chief of Staff, working together in some kind of political manoeuvring or in the Sit Room. Or Josh having to talk Matt down from doing something, or a moment where they doubt each other. Or anything about being in a relationship while doing their respective jobs.
Or maybe an AU where they meet and get close earlier than in canon?
