Just Married!

Dear Just Married Author,

I’m so excited for all the tropey marriage fic for this exchange! I know this letter looks overwhelming, but that's because I like so many things. I'm generally very easy to please, and will love whatever you write for me ♥.

If you want to know more about me , I’m

[archiveofourown.org profile] The_Wavesinger, [tumblr.com profile] the-wavesinger and The Wavesinger (Silmarillion Writers’ Guild) on my fannish haunts. You can also find me here on DW, and as [livejournal.com profile] the_wavesinger on LJ, but I don’t frequent those places often. I If you want more on my fic preferences (however unlikely that is, after this very long letter!), my fic rec tag on Tumblr and my AO3 bookmarks may be of some use.You may also want to poke through my previous exchange letters.

This letter has a list of DNWs and general likes , and also song/vid-specific prompts. However, please don't feel obliged to stick to my prompts—as long as you don't include my DNWs, I'm sure I'll love whatever you write.

DNWs:

  • Gore/guro/vore.
  • Necrophilia.
  • Torture of animals. (Humans/humanoids/other sapients being tortured is more than fine!)
  • Graphic descriptions of nausea/vomiting.
  • Reader inserts.
  • Mundane AUs.
  • Unrequested depowered/non-powered AUs.
  • Non-femslash A/B/O; femslash for this trope is fine!
  • Crossovers/fusions between fandoms I haven't asked for. (Crossover within any fandom in my letter or previous exchange letters, along with mythology and folklore, are more than fine!)
  • AUs with modern settings are no-no’s unless there’s a reasonable canon explanation (eg-: Tolkien, people cursed to be reborn again and again into mortal forms). Even then, please no high school or coffee shop AUs.
  • Please no age regression, de-ageing, or AUs in which one character is suddenly older than a previously older-than-them character (ageswap?).
  • Girl!penis. (Trans characters are fine, just please no inexplicable g!p.)
  • For smut, I'd prefer not to see bloodplay, scat, watersports, age play (including daddy/mommy kink), and any sort of permanent marking/scarring/body modification (scarring and permanent markings outside smut is perfectly fine) unless I've prompted these things for the specific pairing.
  • H/C fics centering on characters with depression and/or anxiety, and/or characters who self-harm or have eating disorders are not my favourite thing. (All of these things are more than fine in non-H/C fic, but not as things which can be hugged/cuddled better, please.)
  • Genderswap which makes F/F or M/M canon pairings or F/F or M/M pairings I've requested F/M.
  • Unrequested relationships as the main focus of a fic (side pairings/non-endgame relationships are fine).
  • Unrequested parent/child incest.
  • Smut for underage relationships unless otherwise requested.
  • Extreme underage (pre-pubertal children) unless otherwise requested.
  • Anachronistic discussions of sexuality and/or characters lecturing other characters on SJ issues.

General Likes:
Tropes, Genres, and (for fic) Story Elements

  • Angst. Drama. Politics. Tragedy.
  • Philosophical ponderings!
  • I love canon divergence AUs, and For Want Of A Nail and other what-if scenarios. I'd love both longer fic (for fic) and art/ficlets as snapshots of what could have been, all the things that could've happened, but didn't.
  • Soulmates! Not necessarily soulmate AUs (although that'd be more than fine), but soulmates as in 'I knew you the moment I saw you', or 'I felt you in my soul' or any other version of that—the electric connection is something I adore. Soulmate things I love include in every version of every reality, in another life, fated to be separated again and again.
  • Regency AUs.
  • Fake dating within the canon setting.
  • Arranged marriage within the canon setting.
  • Time travel and time loops, especially timefuckery where everything is fucked up!
  • (For femslash only) A/B/O
  • In-world mythology.
  • Cultural differences and clashes that occur due to cultural differences.
  • Worldbuilding in general.
  • Battle couples!
  • Lovers to enemies.
  • Enemies to lovers.
  • Trope subversions.
  • I have A Thing for sister/sister, and focusing on the sister aspects of the relationship—how they're alike and how they're different, and just how they're sisters.
  • Competence porn!
  • I also adore people being messes and general failboats, because, uh, contradictions?
  • I have zero problems with fics dealing with misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, racism etc. I like realism, but not fics centered on issues at the expense of characterization (i.e., I'd prefer fic that is period-typical and not anachronistic/using modern terminology and manifestations of bigotry for non-modern canons). I like tortured internal angst and the character(s) learning to live with themselves and their loved ones, or the consequences of the bigotry they face and how it affects their lives, rather than discussions of the issues they face in modern SJ terms. (So, for example, for Hamilton/Washington, internalized homophobia angst affecting their relationship or being discovered by someone else and the consequences, rather than, say, conversations about being gay.)
  • All the things that could've happened, but didn't.

Tone, Setting, and Miscellaneous Things

  • Characters dancing and spending time outdoors.
  • Characters in situations that shouldn't be funny, but are.
  • Characters who're comfortable around each other, and who tease and laugh with each other.
  • Slice-of-life fics and, for relationships, a look at all the quirks/annoyances of cohabitation.
  • Banter! I feel like I've repeated this a million times in this letter, but I adore banter!
  • Casual situations and everyday annoyances
  • Characters playing pranks on each other.
  • Generally over-the-top things played straight.
  • Drama interspersed with humor.
  • Characters sleeping on each other, making out for hours, drinking from the same cup, and generally being adorable!
  • Characters solving mysteries and going on journeys together!
  • Bittersweetness.
  • All the hard questions with no answers, characters trapped in unsolvable dilemmas, loss and grief and moving on.
  • Gallows humour, and humour in otherwise dark situations generally.
  • And just humour in general.
  • And if you want to go in the crack-y direction, I wouldn't mind that as well!
  • I adore OFCs and textual ghosts, for many, many reasons.
  • I'm more than fine with most side relationships, unless stated otherwise.
  • Genderbending! I always love Rule 63'd characters.
  • Open relationships! Threesomes! Moresomes! Orgies!
  • Trans, non-binary, and GNC characters, in a non-issuefic-y way. (See last point of previous section.)

Character and Relationships Dynamics.

  • Characters who and relationships which fall just short of the mark, the almost-most-not-quite. I think the closest word to this would be hamartia in its original sense?
  • Hurt, and not necessarily comfort.
  • Fucked-up families and messy friendships which really, really aren't good for the characters, but they love each other very much anyway. I don't mind either characters finding ways to move past the fucked-upness and the relationships end up flourishing, or moving past fucked-up-ness and leaving what they don't want behind, but I also don't mind a constant cycle of messing up.
  • Found families!
  • Intense friendships which play a central role in the characters' lives.
  • For longer works, plotty fics are always welcome!
  • Stoic and/or emotionally incompetent characters
  • Characters finding ways to come to terms with themselves, with their pasts, and with their loved ones and/or finding their place in the world (think Circle of Life).
  • Characters who're broken, characters who're tired, characters who're lost, characters who refuse to be found, characters who're hurt over and over again, characters who never ever win, characters who've given up. And characters who love, characters who give, characters who're selfless and kind even after everything they've been through, characters who give their all and then some more to people they love, characters who never give up, characters who keep on hoping and keep on fighting even beyond the bitter end. And characters who're a mixture of both types.
  • I love characters with flaws and unpleasant qualities! Awesome ladies can be awesome and flawed :).
  • I like relationships that are fated to end in tragedy, but I also really don't mind a pinch of humor with my angst, if that's your thing.

Stylistic Things

  • I like all kinds of fic, so go wild—linear narrative, flashbacks, epistolary…whatever you think of is lovely, the more daring the better. I especially adore faux-historical documents and faux academia.
  • Relatedly, interactive fiction!
  • Characters teasing and bantering with each other.
  • I don’t mind any type of POV (including second person!). In fact, POV switches and outside POVs on relationships would be lovely.

Smut Likes

  • I will always want F/F or M/M smut, even if I haven't explicitly requested it! Femsub is preferred for F/M D/s smut, though I'm down for femdom if that's your thing, too.
  • I prefer a balance between sensuality, emotions, and physical sensations. Anything from playful to creepy is more than fine (although there are a few things I'd prefer not to see, as outlined in the kink DNWs).
  • Helplessness and humiliation. These are the two main things I love in kinky smut, and everything else derives from there.
  • Bantering and laughing during sex is lovely, as is gentleness.
  • And banter between the dom and the sub in D/s scenes (which can edge towards slightly cruel on the dom's part!).
  • Angry sex/hatesex, smut that gives off vibes of slightly creepy but in a way that can't be pinpointed
  • Dubcon and emotional manipulation!
  • Explorations of power dynamics. I especially like service submission, and power dynamics based on the characters' titles/positions! (I do confess to having a kink for honorifics and titles!)
  • Doms having control over the sub's everyday minutiae (although for short periods of time—24/7/365 high-protocol D/s is a turn-off)
  • Punishment play, especially unusual forms of discipline! (I don't like erotic spanking in and of itself, but spanking as punishment is great! And whatever interesting punishments you can come up with.)
  • Corner time, especially kneeling on rice/somehow having to display themselves/after a spanking.
  • In general, being put on display/having to put themselves on display.
  • Tickling! Both playful tickling and tickle torture (bondage + tickling = yessss).
  • Gags and other ways to prevent speech. And weirdly specific, but fingers of one character in the other's mouth.
  • Groping, especially pulling breasts out of tops (and sometimes letting them just hang there, if you're into humiliation).
  • Orgasm denial, especially chastity devices.
  • Fuck-or-die scenarios.
  • Creative bondage (including predicament bondage. No, strike that, especially predicament bondage, and especially if the predicament is partly psychological).
  • Similarly, ordering a partner to stay still/hold a certain pose.
  • Incest kink.
  • Hairpulling.
  • Directed masturbation (one character instructing the other how to masturbate).
  • Dirty talk (including long distance dirty talk).
  • Navels, inner things, ribs, and kinks for these body parts.
  • (Not really a like, but I'm afraid my AO3 bookmarks won't say much about my smut likes, because I have a separate account for smutty bookmarks. Sorry.)

Darker Likes

  • Dark places and enchantments which entrap people without their knowledge
  • Getting lost in creepy surroundings
  • Corruption and decay
  • Explorations of the darker side of magic (or its equivalent), especially magic that's considered 'good'.
  • Exploration of the supernatural aspects of the canons.
  • Nature being eerily alive and dangerous.
  • Child soldiers, trauma, and really ugly, messy wars.
  • Characters trapped in vicious cycles.
  • Characters who think they're 'not good enough' for their partner(s).
  • Situations where characters are blackmailed/coerced into doing things they don't want to do.
  • Fucked-up families and friendships and relationships; people codependent to the point of almost-insanity, and far beyond anything healthy.
  • Looking into messed-up characters' thought processes.
  • Terrible things being done in the name of good by characters who see themselves as good.
  • Perversion of the 'good' side of magic to do evil things.
  • Mindfucks and powerplay.
  • Torture for the sake of torture, and characters being stoic through torture.
  • Noncon. I like both works focused on sexy (for fic purposes) noncon as well as more seriously-dealt with noncon and noncon aftermath.
  • Pregnancy due to F/F or M/M noncon.
  • Badtouch that doesn't lead to noncon, it's just there and creepy. (Especially when coupled with emotional fuckery and mindgames.)
  • Relationships where one characters is in love, but the other isn't.
  • Partners doing terrible things to each other.
  • Characters who hate themselves and lash out at the world and do fucked-up things as a result.
  • Really, really dark stories which end in the 'everyone dying' sort of tragedy.
  • AUs where everything goes wrong.
  • For darkfic especially, I love outsider PoVs—it makes everything 100% more terrible for me.

< p>Genre Prompts AKA things that wouldn’t fit anywhere else

Action/Adventure: fight scenes between individuals ◈ big battle scenes ◈ going on quests/missions ◈ fighting bad guys together ◈ period-typical/canon-typical weapons ◈ characters being very very good at fighting/tactics/strategy ◈ strategy and tactics in general ◈ movements of large armies ◈ end-of-the world scenarios ◈ high-stakes battles or missions ◈ covert operations ◈ supernatural elements being involved in the mix in canons with supernatural/magical elements ◈ fighting techniques ◈ plotty missionfic

Angst: musings on futility □ hopeless situations and things falling apart □ characters' flaws getting the better of them □ battles being lost □ stuck in situations without support □ forced to deceive loved ones □ unhappy endings □ everything that could go wrong going wrong □ (internalized or otherwise) homophobia □ struggles with religion/faith/belief □ ethical/moral dilemmas □ misunderstandings □ feeling unloved □ being forced to hurt loved ones and do other bad things □ having to compromise on their ideals □ Hobson's choice situations □ betrayals of trust □ star-crossed lovers or the platonic version of this □ the world changing and leaving the characters behind □ things being lost to the ravages of time

AU – Genre Shift: in spaaaace ◎ different canon format (eg: musicals –> TV scripts) ◎ tone changes (eg: drama to comedy, tragedy to romance) ◎ crackification ◎ adding magic/supernatural elements to canons ◎ focusing on a different aspect of a story than the canon does

Character Development: again, probably self-explanatory! I'd just love to see the characters grow and change (whether in personality or outlook or traits or opinions or ideology or attitude or...) through the fic. This doesn't have to be positive, either—characters regressing or going in a darker direction is also great.

Established Relationship: arguments and fights ○ vicious cycles ○ drama ○ compromising and learning to live together ○ date nights ○ banter and flirting ○ falling into bed together after a long day ○ characters organizing their lives around each other ○ unhealthy, obsessive relationships ○ smut ○ meeting the family ○ acquiring pets and/or kids and/or property

Getting Together: meet-cutes (including canon divergence AUs) ◌ angst about each others' feelings ◌ obstacles that have to be overcome ◌ A is convinced B doesn't like them ◌ characters who haven't met in canon meeting for the first time ◌ fake dating leads to real dating ◌ fucking for the greater good ◌ something makes them do it ◌ enemies to lovers ◌ friends to lovers ◌ soulmate AUs ◌ reincarnation AUs ◌ slow burn ◌ hey I just met you this is crazy ◌ one night stands to lovers ◌ angst over not being allowed to be together ◌ A has been hurt by other people in the past and has to slowly fall for B ◌ unrequited love turning requited ◌ A falls for B, who's been nursing a crush on A since forever

Hurt/Comfort: noncon aftermath ◘ torture aftermath ◘ recovering from an abusive relationship ◘ other kinds of post-abuse trauma ◘ injury aftermath ◘ characters stitching themselves together ◘ partner/other person hurting character and then comforting them ◘ PTSD (in a canon-appropriate way) ◘ contrast between current gentleness and past violence ◘ the comfort not helping with certain instinctual reactions (touch aversion, flinching, hyperawareness, hypersensitivity etc.) ◘ comforter feeling helpless in the face of comfortee's issues ◘ two hurt/fucked-up characters trying to comfort each other ◘ attempts to comfort/make things better backfiring ◘ comfortee refusing to accept comfort

Interpersonal Drama: miscommunication ◍ wanting different things in life ◍ wanting different things from each other ◍ betrayal ◍ lying to friends/partners ◍ arguments ◍ blow-ups that have been a long time coming ◍ deliberate miscontsructions ◍ deliberately hurting each other ◍ unintentionally hurting each other

Mystery/Procedural: I'd love to see characters trying to solve a canon-typical mystery. If you want to entangle politics in with your mystery-solving I'd love that too!

Slice of Life:I love seeing glimpses into character's everyday lives in canon-appropriate ways. I love slice-of-life fics as insight into characters' backstories and histories, as well as as looks into their heads and as ways to figure out what's making them tick, or to make it clear that the characters' everyday lives are immensely atypical/fucked up. I also love these kinds of fic as worldbuilding vehicles.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

  • I love the mix of darkness and humor in A:TLA—it's one of my favourite things about it. Also how deeply fucked up it is. Give me all the fucked-up childhoods and child soldiers and dictators! Fucked-up childhoods especially are a Thing for me.
  • Bending! Bending is another wonderful thing, and I'd love explorations of the hows and whys of bending for fic. And for bending and the elements and all the different fighting styles. Exploring the roots of bending, having fun with bending, the darker side of bending—I'd adore it all!
  • Spirits and the supernatural and all the otherwordly aspects of the A:TLA world! I especially love the spirits' inability to distinguish between different humans.
  • Worldbuilding—the past of the A:TLA world and the politics of said world are things I always love to see being explored.
  • I love the character arcs for basically all the characters, and I'd adore something set in the future, because I want to see what happens to them! Bridging the gap between A:TLA and LoK would be particularly lovely.
  • Speaking of LoK, LoK and A:TLA sometimes have wildly different interpretations of events (lion-turtles and the origin of the Avatar comes to mind), so something about that, maybe?

Katara/Yue

We know Katara has a special connection to the moon (and I resisted making a joke out of it! So proud of myself), and it's not difficult to extrapolate from there! This relationship is kind of cracky, I know, but I would love an exploration of it played straight. For smuttiness, incorporeal sex? (With Yue not having a proper body or Katara in the Spirit World) Or waterbending + sex, or the power that must be involved when the Moon Spirit orgasms! We've seen from both A:tLA and LoK that the Spirit World can be both fluffy and terrifying, so explorations of the Spirit World from Yue's perspective, whether she's telling Katara about it or Katara is in the Spirit World with Yue accompanying her, would be great.

Arranged Marriage

  • The daughters of two Water Tribe chieftains marry to bind an alliance between the tribes to fight the Fire Nation.
  • Alternately, the Spirit World and the mortal world need to be joined together by a spirit and a mortal marrying, for Reasons, and because Katara is a bender and Yue was human and they know each other, they’re chosen.
  • Catching feelings after being married, or one of them secretly pining for each other before the marriage.
  • Elaborate marriage rituals culminating in sex.

Forced To Marry Due To Soulbond

  • They meet each other and there are sparks and oops, they’ve soulbonded. (Because Spirit World?)
  • Being soulbonded but not married is Not Done. Or because Yue is the Moon Spirit now there’s a Spirit World-originating compulsion to get married.
  • Or being soulbonded means a driving need to consummate the bond and/or be physically close.
  • Growing to fall in love with each other slowly.

Marriage As A Political Tool

  • They get married for Political Reasons, and either learn to live with each other or actually fall for each other along the way.
  • What are the political reasons? Is it to unite the Water Tribes? To help defeat the Fire Nation? In an AU where Yue doesn’t become the Moon Spirit, to rebuild the world in the aftermath of war? Or for Spirit World-related reasons?
  • The two of them actively getting involved in politics and working together (or forming a tenuous alliance).
  • Do they manage to change Northern Water Tribe norms about women, or do they have to work from the shadows?

Marriage To Avoid Scandal

  • Katara and Yue have sex (or make out), and someone catches them. The Princess isn’t a virgin anymore, so now they need to get married.
  • Alternately, a spirit forces Katara and Yue to have sex.
  • Yue has an affair with a commoner. To hush it up, she’s married to the Southern Water Tribe Chief’s daughter.
  • Katara and Yue form a magical bond. Unmarried people bonding is taboo.

DC Cinematic Universe

  • I love the idea of an all-female band of warriors created specifically to bring peace to the world, so I adore the Amazons (although the pasting-on of some vaguely Hellenic trappings to a basically Judeo-Christian origin story kind of made me LOL). Anything to do with the Amazons would be wonderful!
  • Themyscira must be self-sustaining because it doesn't have any contact with the outside world, so it must have people other than warriors—farmers, weavers, potters etc. How does that work? Do the warriors do all of the above things, too? Or are there non-combatant Amazons? In which case, what are the attitudes from the warriors towards those non-combatants? And what role do Antiope and/or Hippolyta play in the organization of the everyday minutae of the island?
  • The creation of Themyscira and the early days on the island, and the transition from peace to war? Or, does anyone ever get bored of Themyscira or restless to explore the outside world?
  • Also, the strong hints towards the Amazons having sex with each other a lot are wonderful, and I'd love to see more about these arts of pleasure. Do they try out different instruments, try to hold of orgasming for some time (perhaps using certain devices to prevent self-pleasure), experiment with both rough and gentle sex? Do they invent sex toys? (Is there a whole trade in sex toys?)
  • With regard to incest, maybe the Amazons don't have an incest taboo? Or I have a huge thing for incest kink and the dirtybadwrong feeling and the shame that comes with it, so maybe they do? Or maybe 'sisters' is more in the sisters-in-arm sense? Or maybe, for the best of all worlds, they had an incest taboo in the beginning, but as time passed and they grew more and more disconnected from the mortal world, the taboo faded?

Antiope/Hippolyta

I love the loyalty and power differentials at play for this relationship. For Antiope and Hippolyta especially, I love the Queen and commander trope, and I'd love to see how their respective roles come into play in their relationship. Hand-kissing and kneeling to pledge loyalty are amazing, if that’s your thing. I don't mind whether you keep Antiope's death or fix it. On one hand, it was an emotional moment in the film and central to Diana's motivations and lovely and tragic, but on the other, Antipoe is dead. So I'd love to see Hippolyta grieving for Antiope, but I'd also love to see a fix-it where Antiope lives.

Chastity Device That Only Unlocks For Spouse

  • Putting it on their wedding night (in public? Or just the two of them?).
  • The device being unlocked after one of them is away for a long time.
  • Is it a Themysciran ritual that is associated with the crown? The queen being the ruler of everything, or the queen submitting to her spouse as a sign of how she serves her people?
  • Or they do it as funtimes, maybe get it crafted themselves?

Marriage As A Political Tool

  • Consolidating power in Themyscira—the general and the queen are the ultimate power couple.
  • There are rumblings about Diana needing two parents and attempts to take Diana away from Hippolyta. This is the solution.
  • A diplomatic threat from outside makes them decide to marry.
  • They marry to force a change in law or custom.

Married Battle Couple

  • The Queen and her General going to war together! Or, more prosaically, governing Themyscira together.
  • Pre-canon or during canon are both great. Just the two of them fighting and commanding the Amazons together.
  • Did the Amazons have any customs for couples specifically going to war together? Were those customs created by Antiope and Hippolyta?
  • Did they get married during or just after a battle? Or was the beginning of their marriage otherwise somehow related to going into battle together?

Naked Wedding

  • Is this a Themysciran wedding tradition? Or is it something they decide for themselves as a part of the wedding? What’s the symbolism?
  • Are there any rituals etc related to nakedness that they go through, or is it just casual nudity as a component of the wedding?
  • Is everyone naked, or is it just the two brides (or one of the brides if you want to go in the kinky humiliation direction), or the brides and the wedding party?
  • Is there sex (or even a public gangbang) at some point? Or is the nudity related to some other sex-related custom—chastity belt being put on at the altar, beginning the marriage with a spanking etc?

Doctor Who (2005)

  • Fandom-specific DNWs: anything more than a passing mention of Miracle Day (i.e. more than one or two lines mentioning it, or any Miracle Day-specific characters other than Angelo appearing), Jack/Ianto or Ianto as a main plot/character (Jack/Ianto that's not a focus of the fic and Ianto as a part of an ensemble is a fine).
  • This is one of my old fandoms that I was into when I first discovered fandom. Thirteen drew me back into Doctor Who and I ended up marathoning my favourite parts of Doctor Who and Torchwood, and now I’m in love all over again.
  • General stuff/story elements:
    • aliens/alien planets and landscapes
    • alien flora and fauna
    • the Doctor’s Gallifreyan physiology
    • galactic politics in the future
    • the characters having time-travelled to a historical era
    • time travel and temporal mechanics
    • the TARDIS
    • outsider POVs (especially the Doctor’s companions)
    • the inside of the Hub and all the technologies and thingamabobs Torchwood accumulates
    • period-style clothing and/or Jack’s coat
  • This is Doctor Who, so I’ll always, of course, love timey-wimey stuff and weird and wacky worldbuilding and adventure, as you can see.

Jack Harkness/The Doctor

Jack/any Doctor is great, including Jack/any of the Classic Who Doctors. I love the dynamics between the Doctor and Jack. Nine and Jack’s kind-of flirting is adorable, and I love the whole thing with the Doctor making Jack a better man until he’s willing to die—does die—to rescue others. And I also love the whole strained dynamic and the onesidedness and kind of sadness of Jack being left behind and waiting and waiting for the Doctor and then being told that he’s wrong and impossible—I love the angst of that, but also the fact that Jack chooses not to travel with the Doctor in the end. And I love that even though a lot of Jack’s origin and life revolves around the Doctor, the way he lives doesn’t—he’s his own person and has other lives and other loves, and the Doctor is just there. That’s my favourite dynamic for them, actually, the two of them drifting in and out of each other’s lives at specific moments—not actually staying together forever, but always coming back to each other.

Also, Jack’s factness is such an interesting thing! I don’t really believe that he’s actually the Face of Boe, or that even if he is, he can actually die, but I’m very interested in how Jack is a fixed point in time and his immortality, and especially the Doctor’s reaction to that. And I love that the Doctor is older than Jack, but also, Jack is actually immortal while the Doctor isn’t. Anything to do with that, or with the fact that both of them have much longer lifespans than everyone else and will keep losing people, Also, I love that the Doctor is kind of a dick, so the Doctor can totally be a dick if you’re writing fic. And Jack being willing to sacrifice other people to save humanity, and the hard, cruel, distant part of him is interesting to me too (also the hard, cruel, distant, very very powerful part of the Doctor).

Aliens Make Them Get Married

  • They visit a planet where every adult must be married. They’re forced to marry each other to avoid being imprisoned for life.
  • Getting married is a punishment for a crime (flirting? Stealing?) on an alien planet.
  • They’ll be tortured/killed unless they get married.
  • The forced marriage comes with chastity devices that can only be unlocked by touching each other.

Aliens Think They’re Married

  • They go undercover as a couple.
  • On an alien planet, something they do is something only married couples do.
  • Aliens think they’re married so they’re punished, or one of them is forced to punish the other.
  • They’re seen as mythical gods married to each other on some planet.

Fake Marriage

  • They have to pretend to be married for Reasons—to get in somewhere that only allows married couples, to escape being imprisoned, to go undercover, whatever other scenario you can think of.
  • Mutual pining becoming requited and oops, catching feelings, or Jack—>Doctor unrequited pining are both great.
  • They have to have sex (or make out, or live together, or whatever other situation to bring them closer) to ‘prove’ they’re married.
  • Does the fake marriage become real, or do they break up anyway?

Getting Married To Avoid A Diplomatic Incident

  • One of them does something Not Done on some planet. The only way to avoid jail time/violence/all-out galactic war is to get married to each other.
  • Alternately, someone else does A Thing (someone who’s a part of a diplomatic entourage and should know better, even? Or maybe one of the Doctor’s companions?) and Jack and the Doctor get married to avoid the Thing being turned into a full-blown incident.
  • Does the marriage itself prevent the incident, or are there also other rituals they have to go through?
  • Or maybe it turns out that getting married didn’t help, in the end? Except for how it helped them realize their feelings.

Ridiculously Elaborate Wedding Dress

  • Either of them wearing the dress (or both of them wearing dresses) is great!
  • I would love detailed descriptions of the dress, and what whoever is wearing it looks like—makeup and etc would be great too.
  • Why is Jack and/or the Doctor wearing a wedding dress anyway? Is it part of some wedding ritual on an alien planet? Gallifreyan custom? What one of them wants to wear for their actualfax wedding?
  • If you want to write smut I’m good with that too. Humiliation and feminization is great! Or, does the elaborateness of the dress involve bondage that makes it difficult to move? Are there nipple clamps/butt plugs/chastity devices etc as parts of the dress? Is the dress meant to signal that the partner who’s wearing it has a certain role in their relationship? Is the dress very revealing, and/or does it have conveniently placed holes?

Undercover As Married

  • They go to the Planet of Married People to solve some mystery, maybe? Or just needing to go undercover and it’d be a better cover story if the two of them were married.
  • Do they actually have a real ceremony to get ‘married’? If not, do they use psychic paper or actually forge documents?
  • Are they posing as newlyweds or an old married couple? Do they try to outdo each other at who’s better at pretending to be married?
  • Outsider PoV on the two of them and their ‘marriage’, maybe?

Original Works

Most of the stuff I like are mentioned in the 'general likes' section and the genre sections (because mostly for this section I'd just love anything that's remotely related to my likes, so let your id run free). There aren’t any general pairing prompts for these because most of what I want is contained in the general likes/pairing title/freeform prompts.

Female Presidential Candidate/One Of Her Advisors

Accidental Marriage Causes Scandal

  • They get married by accident! …Ooops, the entire country knows. Either established relationship or getting together is great.
  • How do the candidate’s staff and their enemies and allies and the press and the public react? Scenes from the war room?
  • They have to stay married now because accidental gay marriage followed by immediate divorce looks even worse than gay marriage.
  • The advisor needs to resign now, but she’s also really really good at her job. Does the candidate keep her on anyway? Or does she advise the candidate in secret?

Married Battle Couple

  • A secret marriage the partner still holding her job or a publicly acknowledged marriage with the partner resigning from her job to help as her wife both work.
  • The two of them working on policy and strategies in bed together, or stopping mid-sex because one of them has an idea that needs to be immediately written down.
  • How do they balance their marriage and personal life with the demands of politics?
  • The two of them getting into policy details or politicking and maneuvering co-ordinatedly.

Politically Inconvenient Marriage

  • Are they married before the candidate decides to run, or does it happen afterwards?
  • Do they try to keep the marriage hidden (and if so does it come out anyway) or are they open about it?
  • How does them being married affect their ability to do their jobs? Does anyone kick up a fuss about it for various reasons? Do they have to avoid working together completely, to avoid appearances of impropriety?
  • I’d love to see how the political stuff affects their relationship—does it strain it, help it become stronger, or a mixture of both?

Secret Marriage

  • The two of them get married in secret, for Reasons! Situations where the advisor has quit her job or where the advisor keeps on working with the candidate are both fine by me.
  • Is it secret as in nobody knows, a select few people know, or it’s an open secret? Or maybe people are aware of their relationship but not their marriage?
  • How do the two of them deal with the pressure of keeping their marriage hidden? How do they take moments to themselves? Do they fight or is there angst because of how hard it is to keep a marriage secret when they’re under the spotlight?
  • Do people find out? How? And what’s the fallout, both politically and personally?

Female President/Her Female Partner

Accidental Marriage Causes Scandal

  • They get married by accident! …Ooops, the entire country knows. Why is it scandalous? Because they’re lesbians? Because it’s so sudden? Because the partner isn’t a citizen?
  • Either established relationship or getting together is great.
  • How do the President’s staff and the politicians and the press and the public react?
  • They have to stay married now because accidental marriage followed by immediate divorce looks even worse than accidental marriage.

First Legal Gay Wedding

  • Does marriage equality happen during or after the president’s, well, presidency? Is the relationship public, and if so, how did that affect marriage equality legislations/lawsuits/activism?
  • Do they have a quick ceremony at City Hall followed by a private reception, or is it a huge, elaborate event televised to the entire nation?
  • How will history later view their wedding?
  • The politics and optics of the ceremony—who’s invited, who gets the interviews, what the photographs released to the press are. Or is it an entirely private ceremony, no press or cameras allowed etc?

Getting married after being together for many years

  • Why are they getting married now? Political reasons? It’s finally legal? Spur of the moment thing?
  • Did anyone—the press and public, various politicians, their staff, friends and family—know about them beforehand, and if so who? If not, how do various people take the news of their engagement?
  • The proposal and the planning and dealing with the logistics of their lives and the President’s job.
  • The actual ceremony, and afterwards—settling back into their lives as a couple after the bustle of getting married.

Married Battle Couple

  • A secret marriage the partner still holding a job somewhere in bureaucracy or the press or a publicly acknowledged marriage with the partner helping the President as her wife both work.

  • Why is the marriage politically inconvenient? Someone from the opposing part, or with very different political views? Someone who’s not ‘presidential’? Any other reason?
  • Do they try to keep the marriage hidden (and if so does it come out anyway) or are they open about it?
  • How does them being married affect the President’s ability to do her jon? Does anyone kick up a fuss about it for various reasons? Do they have to avoid working together completely, to avoid appearances of impropriety, if the partner still works?
  • I’d love to see how the political stuff affects their relationship—does it strain it, help it become stronger, or a mixture of both?

Secret Marriage

  • The president marries her partner in secret, for Reasons! What are those Reasons? Is the partner a big player from the opposite party? Or maybe she works for the president and doesn’t want to quit her job?
  • Is it secret as in nobody knows, a select few people know, or it’s an open secret? Or maybe people are aware of their relationship but not their marriage?
  • How do the two of them deal with the pressure of keeping their marriage hidden? How do they take moments to themselves? Do they fight or is there angst because of how hard it is to keep a marriage secret when they’re under the spotlight?
  • Do people find out? How? And what’s the fallout, both politically and personally?

Princess Entering An Arranged Marriage/Her Princess Bride, Queen Regnant/Her (Future or Current) Female Consort

Arranged Marriage – Spouses Intend To Stay Platonic But Get Feelings

  • They have to get married for Reasons, but they make a pact and decide to be amiable with each other and friends. Except…they catch feelings, oops.
  • Mutual pining and thinking their love is unrequited.
  • They never consummated their marriage and one of them tries to bring up sex.
  • Declarations of love and starting a relationship while they’re married.

Getting Married To Avert A War

  • The two of them getting married is the only viable way to bring their two countries together and avoid a war that would be disastrous.
  • Do they eventually fall for each other, or do they remain platonic? If they don’t fall for each other, what’s their relationship like—is there still sex? Do they hate each other, or do they get on but don’t love each other, do they tolerate each other, or is there one-sided pining? Or do they already know each other and like/love each other before they get married?
  • How does the princess who comes to her wife’s country adjust to living there, as someone who’s from the royal family of the enemy?
  • How does the fact that keeping the peace depends on their marriage being intact affect their relationship?

Marriage As A Political Tool

  • To what end is the marriage used as a political tool? For diplomacy/kingdom-building? To forestall a war? As a means to an end in court politics?
  • Or is it that other people put conditions on their marriage/manipulate their marriage for political reasons?
  • Is the marriage purely political, or is there/does there grow to be some kind of affection/mutual respect too?
  • What if the political purpose of the marriage fails? How do they deal with the fallout? Do they get divorced, or stay together anyway?

Marriage To Avoid Scandal

  • One of them does something scandalous (has sex or flirts with someone who’s a Bad Idea or with each other, violates a sacred custom etc) and now they need to be married to cover it up quickly.
  • Do they feel resentful or trapped in the marriage, or frustrated by their new life, at some point?
  • Does one of them attempt to (or succeed in) hurting/manipulating the other?
  • Do they decide to quietly dissolve the marriage or keep separate lives once the scandal blows over, but then fall for each other?

The West Wing

  • Absolutely no Josh/Donna, please. Past UST is fine, but please no present, acknowledged UST or any kind of relationship, future, past or present.
  • For this fandom especially I love loyalty and devotion. The relationships I've requested all involve characters who are extremely loyal to each other, and canon has a ridiculous amount of loyalty kink, and I'd love any kind of loyalty.
  • Canon-typical politics and drama is great. I love the politics and how it's done in the show, and however you want to play with that would be amazing! I especially love how competent the characters are at their jobs even if they're not as competent in their personal lives.
  • Fic of the future is also great! I'd also love to see pre-canon stuff.
  • For this show especially, I'd love to see canon divergence AUs.
  • TWW has lots of crossover potential with the MCU, DCEU, Harry Potter, Stargate (SG-1 and SGA), Madam Secretary etc. if you want to go in that direction. Basically, how do the TWW characters and government deal with the existence of supernatural/magical things? And for Madam Secretary, any of the characters advising Elizabeth or anything else political?

Josh Lyman/Matt Santos

The near-instantaneous loyalty Josh gives Matt, the strength and scope of that loyalty (how much must you trust a person that you want to literally entrust them with a country and with the world?), the fact that Matt is Josh’s guy in a way that Bartlet isn’t as much as Josh respects and admires and loves Bartlet, hits me in just the right places. I love the intensity of their relationship, and how Josh puts so much hope and faith in Matt but is still cautious and a foil to Matt’s idealism. And on Matt’s part, getting to know Josh and learning about him and the faith he puts in Matt, until by the end Josh is the one who can talk him down and the person he goes to for honest advice and to express his doubts. And I love that there’s a note of conflict in their relationship and it never really goes away, but there’s also so much overwhelming trust and loyalty.

Accidental Marriage Causes Scandal

  • They get married by accident! …Ooops, the entire country knows.
  • Either established relationship or getting together is great. And is it pre-Santos’ run for presidency, during his run, or once he becomes president?
  • How do the staff and the Democrats and the Republicans and the press and the public react?
  • They have to stay married now because accidental gay marriage followed by immediate divorce looks even worse than gay marriage.

First Legal Gay Wedding

  • Does marriage equality happen during or after Santos’ presidency? Is Josh and Santos’ relationship public, and if so, how did that affect marriage equality legislations/lawsuits/activism?

Getting married after being together for many years

  • It’s after/near the end of Santos’ time as President (or it’s finally legal and they can get married now) and they’re getting married!
  • Did anyone know about them beforehand, and if so who? If not, how do various people take the news of their engagement?
  • The proposal and the planning and dealing with the logistics of their lives and jobs.
  • The actual ceremony, and afterwards—settling back into their lives as a couple after the bustle of getting married.

Married Battle Couple

  • A secret marriage with Josh still being Santos’ CoS or a publicly acknowledged marriage with Josh helping Santos as First Gentleman both work.
  • The two of them working on policy and strategies in bed together, or stopping mid-sex because one of them has an idea that needs to be immediately written down.
  • Santos is a lot more chill than Josh and a lot more able to have a functional personal life—how do the two of them balance out their relationship with work?
  • The two of them getting into policy details or politicking and maneuvering co-ordinatedly.

Politically Inconvenient Marriage

  • Is this sometime during Santos’ run for president, or during his presidency? Or maybe an AU where they fall for each other early (season 3-4ish) and get married and it’s very inconvenient?
  • Do they try to keep the marriage hidden (and if so does it come out anyway) or are they open about it?
  • How does them being married affect their ability to do their jobs? Does anyone kick up a fuss about it for various reasons? Do they have to avoid working together completely, to avoid appearances of impropriety?
  • I’d love to see how the political stuff affects their relationship—does it strain it, help it become stronger, or a mixture of both?

Secret Marriage

  • Josh and Santos get married in secret, for Reasons! Situations where Josh has quit his job or where Josh keeps on working with Santos are both fine by me. Or an AU where they were together before Santos ran for President.
